Memories of Offsetkings and FDTX 2015

This past weekend marked the Formula D’s third year at Texas Motor Speedway. There’s no arguing that American professional drifting has come a long way since its inception, and since its debut, Texas Motor Speedway has been a fresh stop along Formula D’s seasons so far. But just when it started settling into a routine, the folks at Formula D flipped the script and twirled the course layout around. This year, Formula D brought that new new.

Game of Cones – Lone Star Drift Round 3

With a total of 6 Pro-AM rounds and 6 TXSL rounds, Lone Star Drift has just about reached that halfway point where the points race is starting to get a lot more urgent. If that wasn’t dramatic enough, Aaron Losey exercises blatant irresponsibility sweetens the honey pot by giving children dangerous weapons adding to the round’s prize pool two ridiculously cool custom swords as trophies. If that doesn’t get tires smoking then drifters are more mature than I thought.

2015 Lonestar Drift – Round 2

Sometimes when I hear people talk about Hawaiii they say it’s a nice place to visit, but not a place they can see themselves living. You know, because all that nature, perfect weather, amazing food and gorgeous island girls gets hella old real fast, right? (At this point all my friends on Guam will roll their eyes at me in disbelief). No, I don’t subscribe to that opinion. For me, the place that I love to visit but would hate to live is Mineral Wells, Texas.

There isn’t much out there. It’s got some tumbleweeds, a lotta farms, maybe a Walmart and a Chilli’s. But you know what? If it wasn’t a 5 hour drive from Houston, it’d be my favorite Lone Star Drift stop. Despite all the unimpressive first impressions, it does have an airport! And the best part about this airport is that it has a nice spot set aside where car guys get to do things that skate the boundary of stupid and awesome. And no one is around to complain. (Looking at you, WALMART.) Mineral Wells = +1.

Offset Kings Texas // Round 6 of Formula D 2014

SR_FD-RD6_0014Time is a constantly changing variable that progresses on a linear path. Whether we like it or not, it’s always moving forward, and we cant help but plot our own positions in relation to that ever lengthening x-axis. To put it simply, some things change and some things stay the same. In our case, the watermark is new and the pictures are hgher-res, but we’re still gonna be those awkward nerds with big cameras.

2014 Mayday BigD Run / LoneStar Drift: Round 4

SR-ISK_2014-MDBDR_0051Last year, Wayne and I headed up to Dallas to see Round 6 of Formula D. I got to meet some of my multimedia role models and favorite drifters. I finally was able to experience professional level drifting in person for the first time and it was an amazing experience… But still, I wasn’t satisfied. Why? I wanted to see the action as a photographer, shoulder to shoulder with my idols, not through a fence and over them. So when Aaron Losey got Texas Motor Speedway booked for a round of LSD, Wayne and I couldn’t resist making another roadtrip up to play pro in the tracks hot areas like we were important or something.
