I can’t believe I have never attended the Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet before. Hosted at the Moon Tower Inn nestled in Houston’s East End, the JNCM is a (usually) annual car meet that promises a display of classic Japanese vehicles, but in actuality seems to straight up attract the finest vehicles in town disregarding origin and age.
Honestly astounded I’ve never made it out to one of these before. When I decided to pull up in my clapped out IS300 (closest thing I have to a Japanese classic lol), it was just to maybe walk around a bit and grab a bite and a brew at Moontower with the bros, but was greeted with a full on car show of a meet. Lots of models I’ve maybe seen in person like, once ever, were taking up the edges of the blocks bordering Moontower Inn.
Personally, I’ve always wanted a classic car but have been too much of a wuss to ever pull the trigger. In my heart of hearts I’ve craved a 5th generation Celica Alltrac or a 1st generation Celica GT Liftback. Friends have talked me out of it everytime I’ve come close, but realistically I think I myself have always kinda feared investing into anything that needs more than the bare minimum of maintenance to own.
That said, you can sense the pride people had in their cars at the meet, whether it was a restoration build or this beast of a Starlet. There’s just something to inarguably having hard work on display. That’s gotta be more satisfying than just bolting on coilovers and wheels, right? Oh no, BringATrailer just opened in a browser tab. Oh nooooooo
