It’s been a minute since I went to an anime convention (11 years!) and even longer since I helped out at one (21 years!), but when you start becoming an old dude sometimes you’re just compelled to give in to the mid life crisis and do random stuff just because you have a free weekend. After a semi-successful round of driving at Lone Star Drift where I barely picked up a camera (gasp!) I found some down time to go volunteer at Tokyo X!

The Orange Show’s Houston Art Car Parade & Festival
I remember when I first started this blog, a lot of the entries were just me riding my bike down town and then running into a festival or parade. I’m not trying to pretend like they were all spontaneous, but there was a little feeling of adventure to be had when I’d cycle out of the suburbs and into the urban “mountains” of downtown Houston to see something cool. Things are inarguably different in my life now, but hey, I rode my bike downtown and saw something cool last weekend.

2025 Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet
I can’t believe I have never attended the Japanese Nostalgic Car Meet before. Hosted at the Moon Tower Inn nestled in Houston’s East End, the JNCM is a (usually) annual car meet that promises a display of classic Japanese vehicles, but in actuality seems to straight up attract the finest vehicles in town disregarding origin and age.

Coffee and Rice at Catalina (with CJ)
Catalina Coffee has been host to a Sunday morning Coffee and Cars type meet for as long as I can remember. As a nod to the demographic who generally attends, it’s affectionately redubbed as Coffee and Rice. I personally had never attended before, being that it requires one to wake up early on a weekend, but CJ is a regular attendee and when one of your brothers presents an opportunity to meet up you take it.
