Alrighty, so I fumbled this one a bit. How? Many ways. Small fumble would be me falling back into my old habits of trying to drive and shoot at the same event. Every time I do this I end up hindering my personal learning behind the wheel as well as limiting my shooting window; serving two masters as they say. Second fumble would be trying out a new camera body fresh out the mail. I added a 5DMk4 to my weapon stash and I love it, just uhh, wish I noticed I wasn’t shooting with AI Servo for half the day. That sucked, sure, but the big fumble would be that I FORGOT to put an SD card in the other camera I brought with me. It being my old 5DMark3, the broken screen on the back gave me no clue that I was dry firing the entire day. Sounds catastrophic, but luckily we’re in for a rare treat: I had homies! With cameras! Who wanna share!

This past weekend IASDrift and Texas AE86 Matsuri came together at the Houston Police Academy test track to put on their eponymous celebration of the universally beloved little Corollas from the 80s. Well, it’s a tad inaccurate to really call them little when I saw more than a handful of V8’s under popped hoods in the pits. (You would too if I didn’t, umm- you know the whole SD card thing.) But there were a bunch of em and they were out in force to stretch their legs.

For the second drift event I’ve covered on here this year, we get another wet track! While we were lucky enough for the rain to not be actively coming down all day, that didn’t stop the track from being a complete mess of mud and swimming pools. I was having war flashbacks from my first time driving Houston Police Academy in my FR-S where I fully slid off track in the rain and took out something sturdy enough to bash in my driver side rear quarter panel (covered it with a body kit, big brain strats).

While I wish I could tell more of a story here, an hour or two of track shots will have to do instead. Major apologies, will get my shit together next time, scouts honor.
