I feel a little weird coming to Hot Import Nights because I think I enjoy it too much. Pretty girls, cool cars and a crowd full of people attending in celebration of pretty cars and cool girls make for a wonderful atmosphere and for me a guaranteed great time. This past weekend was my second time coming out to the event and, man, it just keeps getting better.
Cars & Coffee: Austin
This time last year yours truly was living on a different continent. Specifically, I was on a 200 square mile island in the Pacific ocean called Guam. It’s a tiny place without a heck of a whole lot going on, but it occasionally had its charm and I made a whole lot of great friends. Since moving to the land of the Whataburger (it’s a Texas treasure, y’all!) and getting fat(ter) getting situated, I’ve been eager to show my fam some of the cool stuff out here on the mainland whenever they’d come to visit. Just so happens my baby brother from another mother Mikey flew in for a week, so we met up in Austin to check out Cars and Coffee on a Sunday Morning.
2013 Delta H Con
2013 LoneStar Drift: Round 3: “A Game of Cones”
I’m not usually one to make use of pop culture puns when subtitling things, but that’s probably because I need a +2 attribute to my clever wordsmithery trait. In any case, “A Game of Cones” was the real-deal, legitimate subtitle to the other weekend’s action packed day of tire slaying. I couldn’t find time to stay for the competition, but I was definitely there long enough to exchange a couple high-fives, greet some old faces and put my cameras to work.
A-kon 2013: I am just happy to be alive.
A-kon 2013 in Dallas Texas was, by far, the largest and most packed convention I have ever been to. In fact, I hear through the grape vine that it was the 2nd largest anime convention in the US to date. There were lines over 3 hours long for each event every day of the con, with The dealer’s room and the artist alley both managing to exceed even that. Every where you went you could smell the scent of too many bodies packed too closely together.
2nd Annual Lamborghini Festival of Houston
If you were enthused with cars growing up in the early half of the 90’s, then chances are good that you had a period of your life where your favorite car had an Italian heritage, a dozen cylinders and doors that reached for the sky. There’s a whole lot more to the exotic sports car world these days, but the Lamborghini Festival of Houston proves that a raging bull can still break necks and draw crowds.
