It’s hard to believe that the Via Colori Street Art Festival has existed in its form for only 10 years. I’ve always looked at it as one of Houston’s most iconic events celebrating creativity. I’d honestly rank it right there with our many Art Crawls and our nation famous Art Car parade. Despite it’s comparatively short term of existence, it’s looked on fondly by Houstonians. And it’s for a good cause. Proceeds from the nifty merch swag benefit the Center for Hearing and Speech, so it’s a good thing that attendance rates only seem to get bigger everytime I visit. And during its big 1-0 it did not fail to deliver a More than pleasant afternoon.
TXDF: A New Take on Sideways Sunday
Lots of tires were killed during the event, and the air was thick with their remains. The clouds sting your eyes and flair the nostrils, inspiring unwanted errectio…. um joy? TXDF by StatusWorks shows that they are a true drift competitions for those that want to take a bite at Lone Star Drift or just want to destroy tires and slide their cars across the track.

Another Sideways Sunday Snippet
To be honest, I wasn’t planning on posting anything from this past weekend’s Sideways Sunday. Hell, it hasn’t been that long since I was out at the last one! A good handful of my friends registered to drive so I was certainly going to come out and show emotional support and encouragement (you go, girl!), but I myself did not register, so staying for an extended amount of time wasn’t in my intentions.
Of course, as soon as I got there I instantly became restless and wanted to drive. Watching everyone else have fun drifting was really tempting, but scrounging 50 bucks and driving another hour and a half to fetch tires wasn’t going to happen. Still, I did bust out the camera and hop on track for an hour. Well, looks like I just can’t completely say no to Sideways Sunday.
Memories of Offsetkings and FDTX 2015
This past weekend marked the Formula D’s third year at Texas Motor Speedway. There’s no arguing that American professional drifting has come a long way since its inception, and since its debut, Texas Motor Speedway has been a fresh stop along Formula D’s seasons so far. But just when it started settling into a routine, the folks at Formula D flipped the script and twirled the course layout around. This year, Formula D brought that new new.
San Japan 8Bit
Ya know? Some times you just run into a perfect storm. I mean everything that could happen just comes together so perfectly that good or bad all one can do is simply gawk at how perfectly things fell in to place. That in a nutshell was San Japan.
Now this was my very first time shooting the convention and in fact I was merely back up called on short notice, nevertheless, we gotta live up to our motto: Have Camera, Will Travel Trespass. To say this convention left an impression on me is a severe understatement. San Antonio’s Riverwalk area and the B. Gonzalez Convention Center offered such a great backdrop for photos I was instantly smitten!
This instasmitt was even smittener with some of the best cosplayers around. It was great running into old friends from the Houston circuit as well as make new friends and contacts.
Speaking of the convention itself, it was fairly well organized for its size and there was quite a lot to do. My fellow photog and I had to plan ahead on which events we would capture and which shoots we’d attend. All in all we were far from disappointed. H-Town Sneaker Summit 2015: A Snippet
Few things resonate with America today the way that Hip-Hop does. More than just music, it’s a cultural force unrivaled by any other entities. We’ve all seen the corny TV shows and movies where the parents try to be cool by emulating Hip-Hop as they see it in the media. Of course, it’s usually for a laugh, but even exaggerated as it is, it’s made clear that the direction it hails from is what’s “in”. Spanning genders, ages and cultural backgrounds, hip hop easily sways our language and lifestyles. If you had to narrow it down, it wouldn’t be in the bass heavy beats or the shiny cars, but in the fashion. Spin it however you like, Hip-Hop is fashionable, and laying the foundation are the kicks. Right at the foot level is an aspect of hip-hop fashion that may very well dictate the rest of it.
I paid a visit to the H-Town Sneaker Summit to take a look into the mecca of sneakerheads. What I found was a wonderful Bazaar of that extends beyond the vendor and down even to the attendees. Everyone’s a curator and everyone’s a buyer.
