River City Drift: Remember CLTX 2025

I miss drifting! I shot the GGP event about 4 years back (geez we’ve been lazy) and none of us have attended anything else since. In the meanwhile I’ve been torturing myself with FOMO through a surprising amount of drifting podcasts (shout out Goodest Cast, Pile Up Podcast and After-Hours with Faction!). I had to get back out there in some capacity, and that’s when I found River City Drift. Not being from San Antonio, that name was new to me. But Club Loose Texas? I remember the Club Loose Texas. (That was supposed to be an Alamo joke, but it probably didn’t work and I’m sorry.)

Do you remember Club Loose Texas? The East Coast drift org offshoot brought drift events down to San Antonio Raceway many years ago, and it was a safe, well-run and affordable outlet for drifters to get in seat time. I think it may even be the last drift event I ever drove with my FR-S. Well, River City Drift has picked up where they left off, and after attending their Sunday outing at San Antonio Karting Complex, they’re more than doing justice to CLTX’s legacy.

So I drove myself out there with a big ol’ bag full of gear to shake all the rust off my drift photography. Immediately I noticed that not only were the rain clouds overhead not going away as I drove closer to San Antonio, but they were actually getting darker and more ominous. Yup, I drove 2 hours to go shoot drifting in the rain.

A long cry from the parking lot big sweeper followed by an S that CLTX used to run in the parking lot of San Antonio Raceway many moons ago, San Antonio Karting Complex’s track has lots of tight turns and twists, bringing a technical aspect that only a gokart track can provide. This and a monsoon demanded the drivers to lock-in. but San Antonio drivers are all-heart and were damn sure still gonna get their laps in. The incredibly talented media in attendance were also ready to reciprocate that energy and we all did the damn thing in the rain. Was actually nice to hang out with other videographers and photographers who love what they do. Every one was sharing their work as they shot and hyping each other up and it was top tier vibes.

Anyway, there wasn’t any competition or anything. We were all just doing it for love of the game. While I didn’t mind the rain too much (wrinkly fingers and toes aside), I definitely found out my Canon RP has jack-shit for weather sealing and shot half the photos with a water obscured view finder. In any case, I think I got fully reacclimated with shutter dragging again by the end of the day and had a blast shooting all over the in-field.

I GREATLY apologize for the size of this gallery. I wanted to make sure I had at least one photo for every driver on Sunday, so I was in full shutterbug mode. I tried culling it down from over 5000 snaps and eventually reached a point where I just could not give a shit about sorting through the import any more.
