Found myself back at Speedsportz again this month for the second round of Knuckle Up Lights. I don’t think I’ve even been to GGP for events this frequently, but Knuckle Up just keeps coming back with the hits.
I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t a tough round to shoot though. As soon as I stepped on the track, right away one of my cameras was over heating and refused to work. On one hand, it’s an older digital mirrorless camera and it just lends itself to being a temperamental pain in the ass (my DSLR’s would never), but to be fair, it really was that hot.
I was getting absolutely cooked by the sun. Kind of a cruel reminder of time’s passage. 12 years ago ‘d be two days deep uncovered on the asphalt airstrip in Mineral Wells and just be straight chilling. This time, I couldn’t go 2 hours before I was seeing spots and had to retreat to my car to chug Gatorade and sit out half the day. Definitely feeling like an old dude before 40.
Still, some things don’t change. I’ll never get tired of this sport. And outside of the driver’s seat, the infield is the best seat in the house, so I might as well keep the camera on me.
Also, still kinda ass at shooting night drifting so I’d like to keep working on that. Practice makes perfect, exercise builds durability, survival is proof of strength and here too I must get my Laps. See y’all at round 3.
